Genre research: The Hate U Give

Some aspects of the film that I liked were how it followed us through the process of the (actual/real) victims. It’s storyline and whole objectives were clear and building climax as it went on. Mainly focusing on Justice and what’s right.

The dialogue within its self had a lot of strong language both in and out school ground. Many times the characters spoke with determining dialogue in the high end and lower class communities .

•music playing in background that can be heard

Props included were guns, illegals substances such as alcohol, cigarettes, marijuana  etc. props were mostly evident in the settings of the low end neighborhoods and parties.

Cops, drug dealers and youth activists were more prominent as characters in the film.

They contain a lot of white shots for example when one of the important characters was shot and when they were surrounded by police in a cop car. Giving the audience a wide view of what was going on.

How do you see the low angle when star (the main character) was crying basically to add an intense emotion to the scenes.

We even seen a couple high angles of the carbs giving us a sense that they were asserting dominance onto us the audience and the character at hand.she himself look important and intimidating.

•cutaways during shooting incident

•cutaways during interview with cops

There was dark Clothing for “bangers” and more preppy clothing for the opposition.

•streets, the rough neighborhoods where majority of police and regular crimes within the movie are staking place

•lots of rap music playing- typically some displaying AA culture (migos, Tupac)

-A long shot is used to show the person/object in a scene with the surroundings
-A birds eye or high angle shot is shot from above or at a higher angle than the object/character. These are typically used to gain perspective or to imply that the character/object is of lesser meaning than something else.
-Medium shots can have the setting in the background but the main focus will be on the character in shot, so the background tends to be blurred out to bring all the audiences attentions to the main character and their emotions in the

  •Common Mis-en-Scene in Drama Films?

-Costumes in a drama are supposed to represent the character and their personality. An antagonist may wear dark clothing to portray dark intentions.

The genre chosen is ….Dun Dun Dun- CRIME

Out of all genres we researched crime genre was the most interesting to us. There were components where we knew it  would be easier for us to access . We found that it would be so much easier to do something we have lotta of knowledge on since we do watch a lot of crime shows and movies. We have experience using some of the angles and acting in situations similar to those in crime films. And when it comes to props it wouldn’t be an issue when considering what would be both allowed and available.the genres were good indeed, but it was the miscellaneous things such as props and acting that made Choosing crime as the genre, very easy.

Genre conventions: action-adventure

  • Common Camera Angles in action Action Films?  Usually there’s an establishing shot to basically set the tone and setting of where the adventure is going to take place — lots of close ups shots, to dramatize and put emphasis on what is going in the film. Mainly grabbing  the audiences attention and adding more attention to what’s happening — there’s always some point of view shots, in moments where something exciting or in action is happening, giving the audience the feel that they’re actually their experiencing it since it’s a view from what the character is seeing. —

Our pitch

"A Group of girls make a bad decision which lands them in a interrogation room"

It would be interested in making this film because we both love crime movies/shows. So we know a lot about what goes on in these films. Also, it  wouldn't really be a problem to access a group of girl to be in the film. What could be a problem though is finding somewhere to replicate an interrogation room. But other than that I think this would be a good idea.

“  When a friend  is accused of causing series of disturbances in her city , 2 girls come together to find the culprit.”

Making this film would be great idea since it falls under several categories that many of our favorite shows do. Being able to work with friends and act as detectives would be fun to accomplish and gives room for many possible genres to be done. The only challenge would really be planning locations and possible costumes that make sense.
